Delaware Professional Counselors Association
DPCA
is a growing community of mental health counselors who
strive to advance the profession and practice of professional
counseling in Delaware. We also
provide continuing education opportunities through conferences, workshops, and other means that assist professional mental health counselors and others in updating and enhancing their competencies.
If you share our interest in training and credentialing of professional
counselors, in research, in positive relations with other professional organizations
and in effective advocacy of counseling-relating issues,
we invite you to join our programs of public awareness
designed to enhance recognition of professional counseling and its practitioners.
February 17, 2012 Presentation
Bruce E. Palmer, LPCMH will be speaking on the
topic:
The Couples Journey - Stages of Relationship. This
presentation of Schwartz and Schwartz’s (Becoming a Couple, Prentice Hall, 1980) model of the developmental stages of relationship in the context of therapeutic
intervention explores how the movement from ‘confluence’ to ‘separate and related’ styles of interaction can be conceptualized as part of a 5 stage process.
The presentation will examine the difficulties and joys encountered in each developmental stage, as well as discuss and brainstorm possible intervention strategies useful to each stage. A series of articles I
written by Bruce Palmer for Living Well magazine will be used as the basis of the presentation.
